I just delivered a partial denture to an elderly gentleman who had severely broken, decayed upper anterior teeth.

To me, it wasn’t a “big deal” to do a rather simple procedure.

But to him, as he emotionally explained, it meant he can go out to eat with his wife more often, and (for Christmas) his grandkids would now sit on his lap. He even said he was now ready to go and dance…(oddly enough, remix of christmas music and macarena was playing in background)

He said this partial was all he wanted for Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone.

From ebd.ada.org Essential oil and chlorhexidine mouthrinses similar in managing gingivitis
Plain Language Summary Prepared by: Susan Parker RDH, B.S., MEd, MBA   A Plain Language Summary of: Essential oils compared to chlorhexidine with respect to plaque and parameters of gingival inflammation: a systematic review Van Leeuwen, M. P., Slot, D. E., Van der Weijden, G. A.. Journal of Periodontology. 2011;82(2):174-94
  • Authors’ findings
Based on the analysis, the authors said that, although the chlorhexidine rinse was better at controlling plaque, both rinses did equally well at controlling gingivitis overall. In addition, the likelihood of staining did not seem to be higher with one rinse over another. They weren’t able to analyze study results related to the other factors.

    Conclusion
Good oral hygiene (brushing twice daily and cleaning between your teeth once a day) is the best way to prevent gum disease (including gingivitis). However, mouthrinses sometimes are used to help control symptoms of gum disease. This review of the science indicates that, while the chlorhexidine rinse was better at controlling plaque, mouthrinses with essential oils and chlorhexidine rinses reduced gingivitis to a similar degree.

Every now and then I peruse the toothpaste aisle, where oftentimes I tell patients to go for inexpensive, “quick treatment.” Today, at a CVS I realized that even this can be a daunting task. Heck, I wonder if finding the right dentist is as difficult as finding the right toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, etc… We are affirmed that when you come to M Dentistry, you have come to the right place. 😉
